Wow! Said the Owl

A little owl wakes up in the daytime and he is wowed by all that he sees—the yellow sun, blue sky, orange flowers, red butterflies, green leaves.  Wow Said the Owl* is a charming picture book about colors and discovery.

I began to remember “Wow!” moments in my life.

  • One rainy morning I dropped my teenager off at the high school, and every student walking across the quad was looking up. So, I looked up. Two perfect rainbows arched above the school.
  • I remember the spectacular display of white daisies in my front flower bed.  I had been too busy to garden because of the care my mother-in-law needed, but my Heavenly Father knew how much I loved flowers, and He gifted me with that awesome display.
  • A hollyhock volunteered to grow in my front flower bed and its stalk reached ten feet into the sky. Its pink blossoms fluttered in the breeze.
  • I returned home late one night and saw a possum on my front porch. He was swishing cat food in the water dish and eating it.
  • I saw a mother quail and her babies scurry across my path as I walked down the hill on the BYU campus in Provo, Utah.

My memory was full of “Wow!” moments.

Even as I treasured the “Wow!” moments”my mind had capture in the past,  I began to wonder how many of them had I missed. Was I too busy, to distracted to look?  Had I diluted the richness of my life by concentrating on trivial things?

*Wow Said the Owl by Tim Hopgood is a picture book that I will use for storytelling this month. I need to use it now because the Covid-19 permission to read this book online ends on September 30 of this year. Macmillan Publishing and other companies have been very gracious with their permissions during the pandemic. It has made it possible for me to use a variety of materials for my Zoom storytelling.  I appreciate those permissions.
